To Dos Day

___ Item 1: TURN CHARTREUSE...
...with envy again, this time as The Stinkys join the revels at a concert performance by a certain D-List celebrity. We're sitting in Row Q. Wonder if that's a special section for "The Gays"...

___ Item 2: TUNE IN...
...to HGTV for the national television debut of StinkyLulu's old ABQ friend, Kenny Chavez, as a featured craftydude on this episode of the strangely entrancing series, That's Clever!

___ Item 3: DETERMINE...
...whether these crimes are Scooby Doo or Real?...

___ Item 4: CONSIDER...___ Item 5: DISCUSS whether...
...this new Fall CW series is potentially brilliant? Or obviously racist? Opine in comments... (via bluegum)

___ Item 6: RETURN...
...on Sunday for the 1988 Supporting Actress Smackdown, featuring an all-star Smackdown panel, including Ken, Nathaniel, Nick, Brad, Newland & welcoming Keith!

Have at it, lovelies...

Isn't all of the audience a special section for "the gays" at a Kathy Griffin concert?

And remind me to tell you my "That's Crafty" story....

Oh no! I think it just looks really crappy.

The thing about shows (and movies) like "Aliens in America" that always bugs me is that they are so often just excuses to tell racist jokes while preaching racial understanding. Like "Shallow Hal". It's filled with fat jokes but it's pretending to be a movie that teaches people not to be so shallow.
If the new show can avoid this, it's potentially brilliant. If not... we are in for something really offensive.

Indeed. And that was the argument GLAAD used in their defense of Chuck and Larry -- that the lowest common denominator humor is the bait for a switch into critical thinking and/or empathy. Part of the reason I was mildly tempted to see Chuck and Larry is that Sandler has indicated the reason he ALWAYS includes gay characters in his movies is to show his idiot-based audience that gay guys and straight guys can be friends.

It reminds me of that thing that Harvey Fierstein says in Celluloid Closet: visibility at any cost. A worthwhile strategy? For whom?
