Cast Your Vote for JULY's "Supporting Actress Sunday" Series

Today, StinkyLulu's off being a "good citizen" & serving as an Election Clerk in the Land of Enchantment's midterm election primary. (What's there to say? Sitting in a polling place all day in a non-Presidential election makes Lulu feel very very young.)

In tribute to the giddy randomness that is participatory democracy, StinkyLu's pleased to -- once again -- turn the decision within this exercise of Supporting Actress Sunday over to you, lovely reader. (Your decision will be determined no later than June 30*, which gives about 3 weeks for diabolical election scheming.) It's worth noting that July's the 1st month of Supporting Actress Sundays for which StinkyLulu has a strong preference as to the outcome. A preference which shall remain unstated. ("A year like that/ One like no other") But the decision is in your hands, lovely reader.

Meanwhile, the nominees for July are:
  • 1943: Gladys Cooper in "The Song of Bernadette", Paulette Goddard in "So Proudly We Hail", Katina Paxinou in "For Whom the Bell Tolls", Anne Revere in "The Song of Bernadette", Lucile Watson in "Watch on the Rhine."
  • 1952: Gloria Grahame in "The Bad and the Beautiful", Jean Hagen in "Singin' In The Rain", Colette Marchand in "Moulin Rouge", Terry Moore in "Come Back, Little Sheba", Thelma Ritter in "With a Song in My Heart."
  • 1961: Fay Bainter in "The Children's Hour", Judy Garland in "Judgment at Nuremberg", Lotte Lenya in "The Roman Spring of Mrs. Stone", Una Merkel in "Summer and Smoke," Rita Moreno in "West Side Story."
  • 1970: Karen Black in "Five Easy Pieces", Lee Grant in "The Landlord", Helen Hayes in "Airport", Sally Kellerman in "M*A*S*H", Maureen Stapleton in "Airport"
  • 1979: Jane Alexander in "Kramer vs. Kramer", Barbarie Barrie in "Breaking Away", Candice Bergen in "Starting Over", Mariel Hemingway in "Manhattan," Meryl Streep in "Kramer vs. Kramer."
  • 1988: Joan Cusack in "Working Girl", Geena Davis in "The Accidental Tourist", Frances McDormand in "Mississippi Burning", Michelle Pfeiffer in "Dangerous Liaisons", Sigourney Weaver in "Working Girl."
Vote early. Vote often. Vote now.
It's the Oscar-obsessive way. (Tell your friends.)

What year's nominees should provide the Roster for JULY's Month of Supporting Actress Sundays?

Current Results

*A point of clarification:
Due to some confusion about the last roster poll, it's worth clarifying that the voting will close sometime after 12:00am (Eastern) on June 30 -- depending on what StinkyLulu's got going on &/or when Lulu needs to make the posting &/or when Lulu's going to bed.
(Hey -- It's a low-rent operation here.)

i voted for 1952 'cause i want to hear your informed opinions on how the hell jean hagen didn't win for 'singin' in the rain'.

Although the Jean Hagen thing above is tempting, I am really into Karen Black, Sally Kellerman, and Lee Grant in the same year. I'm really into Lee Grant lately--perhaps a FESTival is in order.

i'm voting for 1961. Rita Moreno I adore but there's three other films in the list that I've always meant to see so this would be a perfect excuse.

I voted for '88... except for The Accidental Tourist, to which I feel oddly compelled to return every few years, I haven't seen any of these movies in forever, and I'm suspicious that my thoughts on all four performances could change dramatically. (I don't really remember Cusack or McDormand at all.)
