I've been meaning to tell you (and unless I did it at some really drunk stage, I still haven't) how much I love these ads from "back in the day".
Either you and I are contemporaries or you have simply rediscovered these wonderful artifacts, but I was 18 years old in November of 1981 and had been purchasing a few of these mags in an out-of-the-way neighborhood in my PA hometown occasionally since I was 16.
I pored over every inch of those magazines back then and so when I see an ad like this one (for the "Arab Strap"!), it is like looking at an old family picture. (Wow, what a crappy analogy).
Regardless, thank you for keepin' it alive and bringing it to new generations. For all the raunch and sleaze, it was still (if only for a few seconds more) such an innocent age...
Thanks so much for your words of appreciation. You have a handful of years on me (I was 13 in November of 1981) but you totally "get" my instinct behind this series -- both as a nostalgia exercise and as a something of a historical portrait of a bygone era. It's just amazing to me how long ago it seems...
And the "research" for this series is -- of course -- lotsa fun...
