ARCHIVE OF SUPPORTING ACTRESS SUNDAYS & THE SMACKDOWN
Talented Mr. Ripley?
i love this movie. matt damon was great & cate blanchett was a revelation.and then, of course, there's the bathtub scene, the awakening of jude law.
Indeed, Reign.@ShoNuff: 1999 was a great supporting actress year but she would have been among my top picks.
1999 really was a stellar year for actresses in both categories...and, then we have years like this one. what's changed?with blanchett, for me, she showed far more range than i anticipated and more than made up for a surprisingly stiff paltrow.
I'm so glad someone brought up Cate Blanchett's performance! Of course, 11 years later she's one of our most celebrated actresses, but this is still one of my favorite performances of hers. It's a wonderful case of an actress taking a smallish part and running with it. And Jude Law played the relatively ambiguous sexuality of Tom Ripley to perfection.
I really like this movie and it's the first movie I watched on a plane!By the way, I'm a fan of your blog, but I was too shy to comment the posts. Today I want to invite you to watch a Best Supporting Actress video I did and posted on Youtube. It contains my personal choices amongs nominees and no nominees for the Oscar.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-Bid-2HfVIHope you like it!
