News in Supporting Actressness

You might recall, lovely reader, the "Supporting Actress" kerfluffle that emerged a couple months ago regarding the -- ahem -- brevity of one of the nominated performances for Emmy 2006. (StinkyLulu even guest-posted on The Film Experience about it...)

Now, while on a press junket for her new memoir, La Burstyn offers her own perspective on the Emmy controversy:
When they told me I was nominated for that I went, `What, are you kidding?' ... The brouhaha around it, you know, they tried to reach me for a statement. I said, `This doesn't have anything to do with me. I don't even want to know about this. You people work it out yourself.' ... I thought it was fabulous. My next ambition is to get nominated for seven seconds, and, ultimately, I want to be nominated for a picture in which I don't even appear. (link)

It was ludicrous how this Emmy nomination debacle came against Burstyn. She didn't nominate herself. She considered it absurd, yet Emmy voters decided to nominate her, most probably because they hadn't seen the TV-movie and didn't know that it was only a cameo.

I think she reacted gracefully.

Good for her- having a great sense of humor about this silly gaff is what I'd call "taking the high road." Burstyn's a class act.
