As you well know, lovely reader, I tend to reserve this space for actresses. But every so often an opportunity arrives that instigates me to a serious contemplation of their male counterparts (aka "actors"). This week, Nathaniel of The Film Experience posed just such a challenge. So, in no particular order, please enjoy the actors to whom I remain forever devoted, pictured in the roles that carved their special place in my actressexual heart.
Can YOU name the actor?
Can you name the ROLE?

Well, the photo bucket links give the names away, but it's either this or laundry:
ReplyDeleteJavier Bardem - Before Night Falls
Paul Newman but I can't tell you the movie
John Leguizamo - Romeo & Juliet?
Dustin Hoffman - The Graduate
Paul Rudd - Clueless
Raul Julia - Kiss of the Spider Woman
Robert Downey, Jr. - Soapdish
argh. i donnt' know four of them.
ReplyDeletebut i really want to know the asian guy in what looks like a silent movie? or 30s movie?
@jakey: That's Paul Newman in SlapShot, a movie I suspect you'd quite enjoy.
ReplyDelete@nat: That's Sessue Hayakawa in Cecil B. DeMille's The Cheat (1915). The first and, arguably, only Asian American leading man in US film who was not also a martial artist. Nominated as Supporting Actor for The Bridge over the River Kwai in 1957. His silent work, though, is AMAZING - a big lightbulb moment for me in terms of acting in silent film.
Johnny Depp - What's Eating Gilbert Grape?
ReplyDelete*visiting from Fabulon*
@MJ: yup! I liked him before, but that was the turning point into serious like-like for me.
ReplyDeleteAdam Beach - Victor Joseph(Smoke Signals)??
ReplyDeleteI thought Frank Fencepost at first but I don't remember seeing Frank wear that shirt in Dance Me Outside.
Also:
David Strathairn - A League of Their Own
Joseph Gordon-Levitt - Mysterious Skin
Clive Owen - Closer
Christopher Meloni - TV's "Oz"
I'm sorry--Chris Meloni's chest knocked all thoughts out of my head.
ReplyDeleteGreat picture of Raymond Burr.
I have Adam Beach, Johnny Depp, Clive Owen and Joesph Gordon-Levitt on my list too. Nice picks!

Ricardo Montalban, "Star Trek II: the Wrath of Khan"
ReplyDeleteLet's not forget Brad Davis in Midnight Express, Chiwetel Ejiofor in Dirty Pretty Things, and Richard Widwark in (I think) Pickup on South St...?
ReplyDeletePositive it's:
ReplyDeleteRaymond Burr in Rear Window
Juano Hernandez in Young Man With a Horn
Dustin Hoffman in The Graduate
Ricardo Montalban in Wrath of Khan
Paul Newman in Slap Shot
Reasonably sure it's:
Brad Davis in Midnight Express
Guessing it might be:
Javier Bardem in Before Night Falls
Robert Downey, Jr. in Less Than Zero
Richard Widmark in Pickup on South Street
You have extraordinary taste! And thank you for recognizing the ultra-dreamboatness that is Richard Widmark. Especially his lower lip.
